WWII Production of US GI Muzzle Covers©

During WWII the Army produced a large quantity of muzzle covers to be used on many of the issued small arms.  Development and production was the responsibility of the Quartermaster Corps. The purpose of the muzzle cover was to prevent mud or large pieces of dirt from getting into the bore of a weapon. The covers were made out of web fabric and in a tight situation the soldier could shoot through the cover without harm to himself or the weapon. The covers were produced in both Olive Drab (OD) and Khaki. Shades of each varied greatly.

The collection shown below was the property of a member of the Forks of the Delaware Historical Arms Society (FDHAS). He was an advanced collector of military accessories from all countries. He allowed the FDHAS to post this page before he passed away.

Research on identification of contractor and location was done by FDHAS member Bill Ricca.
